Yaaaas, you read that right. Nude spas.
Let me get a little more specific, co-ed nude spas. So, during our trip to Amsterdam, we stumbled upon one of the coolest places I’ve ever been. Spa Sport Hotel Zuivier. I find that sometimes the best way to start your vacation is by spending the first day at the spa! You can start your trip off slow with a nice relaxing day, and then be prepared for busy days of sightseeing!
Well, little did I know upon booking our massages that the facility didn’t allow swimsuits at all! (Only on specific swimwear days.) When in Amsterdam, right? In my defense, the website is primarily in Dutch and while I did assume there may be other people nude, I didn’t realize we weren’t even allowed to wear swimwear! Honestly though, it was even more of a shock that the men and women shared locker rooms! Don’t mind us Americans over here.
As nervous as I was to just strip down in front of total strangers in the beginning, after about 15 minutes you don’t even think about it anymore! Here’s a few reason why I think everyone should experience a nude spa- especially us Americans!
(OH! And if you want to read more about other things to do in Amsterdam, you can check out my list of a few of My Favorite Things to do in Amsterdam
1. It’s extremely relaxing.
Obviously if you’re going to any type of spa, you’re seeking relaxation. But this is a whole new level. Between the different pools, warm and cold, the saunas, the steam rooms, the showers, & the hot tubs- you’ll find it hard to not find yourself in total relaxation.
2. It’s good for your health.
Studies show that being naked is not only good for your mental health, but also your skin! Without clothing, you're more prone to healthier, clearer skin - and reaping the benefits of the skin treatment services your spa may provide is just an added bonus!
3. It boots your self confidence.
Being nude in front of total strangers may be a little awkward at first. But in my experience, it was awkward for the first few minutes, but when you really look around you realize that nobody else cares what you look like, you start to relax and enjoy the experience. Nobody there is even focused on you, they’re focused on relaxing and enjoying their own time at the spa. I found that after leaving Zuivier in Amsterdam, I was happy and confident! After seeing at least 70 naked people over the course of a few hours, you start to really see that everyone is so different and it doesn’t even matter. <3
4. It can make you more accepting to others.
Short people, tall people, skinny people, fat people, old people, young people... all naked. You’ll see it all at a nude spa, especially if it’s coed! Embrace it.
5. Your skin will feel amazing afterwards!
You have no clothing to restrict you! This is especially important in the steam rooms or saunas. In both of those, your body is sweating out toxins. Although, if you’re wearing clothing, those toxins just get put right back into your skin!
6. It decreases stress and heightens your mood.
This one is a no-brainer.
7. It's fun!
Every facility is different, but I've gotta tell ya- it was pretty fun getting into a heated pool indoors and swimming through the huge opening to the outdoor area of the pool (where the temperatures were below freezing)..... all naked. Then taking a trip upstairs for a glass of wine and then a massage.
8. They're fairly inexpensive.
Well, at least when you compare it to the prices at spas in America! Many European spas will charge a flat admission rate into the facility to use the pools, saunas, etc. and then you would pay an additional fee for massage or any other services.
9. They're private.
You don't have to worry about anyone sneaking a photo of you - at least in any of the Spa's I've visited! They've all had strict no cell phone policies and provide you with an area to lock it up in the locker room. When we were in the outdoor section of the Spa in Amsterdam, there were tall walls around the outside of the facility where the pools were so nobody could peek around the corner!
I'm sure every place isn't like this - but something to consider!
10. You'll want to go over and over!
We went twice during our trip to Amsterdam. The first time was on the itinerary, the second time was squeezed in.
Here's the real question now, does ANYONE know of anything that exists like this in the U.S.? Drop a comment below!
** Not looking for nude beaches or campgrounds... just SPA'S. Coed wet spas.
